Traditional Farming Knowledge
Vergers du Monde is a non-profit association based in France. Its mission is to promote the ecological knowledge of farmers from here and elsewhere. This knowledge is the result of careful observation of nature and its environment, guiding the relationship with living beings, water, soil, and animals. Passed down from generation to generation, both here and abroad, complementary to science, this knowledge is at the heart of Vergers du Monde's commitment.
Essential keys to adapting to climate change, the knowledge of farmers is rich and evolving, making it an invaluable resource for resilient and sustainable agriculture.
2020
Vergers du Monde was created based on an observation. On one hand, a significant number of French farmers are retiring. On the other hand, foreign farmers who migrate to France do not enter this sector. On both sides, valuable knowledge is at risk of disappearing.
2021
It’s urgent. But how can this knowledge be expressed and transmitted? Given the needs in the agricultural sector and the financial urgency faced by exiled farmers, the TARC project allows us to build a support pathway towards agricultural employment, a fertile ground for the exchange of knowledge between farmers.
2022
40 meetings with farmers and 20 farm visits later, we find ourselves up against a wall. Numerous obstacles hinder integration into agriculture. Moreover, economic vulnerabilities and prejudices devalue agricultural professions, both here and elsewhere. Professional integration becomes a tool, not the ultimate goal of our action
2023
The TERSA project allows us to observe farming ecological knowledge from three perspectives: social sciences, agronomy, and communication. Three experts are now dedicated to experimenting with new spaces for dialogue between local and exiled farmers.
